The cityscape grew dark as dusk approached, and with it, a sense of finality. She had said goodbye to everyone she’d needed to, of that she was sure. Still- it didn’t make tonight any less difficult. It would be the last time she’d see this city, of that, she was positive. In her heart, she knew she’d done everything she could to fix it. Grand gestures were all well and good in the movies, but that seemed to be the only place that they ever worked out. Real life didn’t always have the happy ending, but she supposed that people wouldn’t pay money to see them if that were the case.
A long sigh escaped her lips and she leaned against the railing, staring out over the skyline. It was time to go- she’d had enough defeat to last her a lifetime. The entire place was rank with it.
